Check your credit report at least once a year. You are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three major agencies every 12 months. You can request a copy from AnnualCreditReport.com. Request and review the reports in one of the following ways:

Repairing Your Credit ReportIf there are errors on your report, it is important to get them repaired. Inaccuracies on your report can result in lower credit scores and they can also indicate fraudulent activities. It is recommended to dispute any errors or inaccuracies as soon as you spot them. All three credit bureaus accept filing of disputes online; however, Equifax and Experian only accept online filings. To initiate a dispute online, follow the links below. Equifax Tell the credit bureau in writing what information you believe is incorrect. Include copies, not the originals, of documents that support your position. Enclose a copy of your credit report with the disputed items circled. Send it via certified mail, return-receipt requested. This will enable you to document that the credit bureau received your correspondence. Keep copies of the dispute letter and enclosures. Click here for a sample letter.
